We hosted Ganpati (Elephant God) this year, and the energies were joyous.

HE taught me so many things in such a simple manner.

One evening while I was attending to him I saw that the Diya had very little ghee (clarified butter) in it.

This time ghee was used up faster, I wondered. As I poured ghee in the Diya, the wick caught my attention. And I realised while adjusting the wick last time I had made it little bigger so the light could be brighter, and it burned the ghee faster than usual.

It got me thinking, isn’t this similar to our life? Our breath? It is said we are born with a set number of breaths and not a set number of years.

When we excite ourselves, get anxious, angry, irritated we burn the Prana (Essence of our life) faster and when we are complacent, lazy, procrastinate, the prana is not able to flow properly. But when we know how to bring the balanced approach to life it utilizes the resources at its best and gives us the best results.

Everything in nature reminds us to bring about and create a balance so we can live optimally.

While I am finding my balance by eliminating things that bother me, I am also making peace with things I can’t change, by changing what I can, by bringing in what creates joy and peace and by asking myself what is required of me to create a balanced life.

My idea of a balanced life is to have a routine where I can perform my work with integrity. I can spend time with my family where I cook for them, keep my house in order, where I can share some good moments with friends. I take time out for my fitness, to travel extensively, know and understand different cultures, taste different cuisines, take time out to learn new things. Most importantly, I know how to manage my emotions and I respond with love and dignity.

My idea of balanced life is to be able to grow and evolve and be a better person every moment.

What in your opinion is a balanced life?
